Providing Court-Based Services during the Pandemic

When joining Illinois JusticeCorps, most AmeriCorps members look forward to a year of providing in-person direct service to those who need it most from courthouses around the state.  However, in March 2020 – courts shut down for the large part and what court hearings were available, they were occurring remotely.  The program, and its volunteers, have spent the last year adapting and adjusting to the ever-changing needs of the court system and self-represented litigants during the COVID-19 pandemic.  This was highlighted in April 2021 by Nina Wilson, Illinois JusticeCorps Fellow – McHenry County, for the Illinois Supreme Court’s monthly newsletter, Illinois Courts Connect.
